Spire Global wins contract from NOAA to provide satellite weather data
Spire Global, an American space-to-cloud data and analytics company, has bagged a contract worth $8 million from the US National Oceanographic and Oceanic Administration (NOAA) to deliver satellite weather data.
The award to Spire Global is part of indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ) delivery order 4 issued by the scientific and regulatory agency.
The satellite weather data to be delivered by Spire Global will be for commercially available space-based radio occultation (RO) data which will be used for operational weather forecasts.
Spire Global has a constellation of over 100 satellites that gather radio occultation profiles.

Spire Global said that the satellite weather data delivered to NOAA will be made available in almost real-time to national and international meteorological organizations and the larger US federal government.
The data delivery will begin on 16 March 2022 and run until 18 January 2023, said the space-to-cloud data and analytics company.
