Sparrows Group has won a five-year contract from Spirit Energy for providing crane maintenance and lifting services for the latter’s Morecambe Hub assets in the East Irish Sea.

The Morecambe Hub consists of six fields, of which three are operated by Spirit Energy for more than three decades.

The North Morecambe, South Morecambe, and Rhyl fields, which produce gas, are located nearly 25km southwest of Walney Island in west England.

Under the contract, Sparrows Group will provide deliver crane maintenance on all fixed lifting assets located across the Morecambe Central Processing Complex, DP6, DP8, and DPPA platforms.

Sparrows Group will provide the crane engineering, design services, and technical support from its headquarters in Aberdeen, Scotland.

The Morecambe Hub, which is considered among the largest gas fields in the UK continental shelf, at its peak, covers 20% of the domestic gas demand in the UK.

The gas produced from all the fields is processed at Barrow Gas Terminals, located near Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, before it is sent into the National Transmission System.
