Siemens to acquire Heliox to boost eMobility charging portfolio

Siemens AG, a global powerhouse in electrical engineering and electronics, announced a definitive agreement to acquire Heliox, a Netherlands-based leader in fast charging solutions for eBus, eTruck fleets, and passenger vehicles. The acquisition is a strategic move to fortify Siemens’ eMobility business, especially its charging portfolio. Subject to customary regulatory approvals, the transaction aims to enhance Siemens’ capabilities in power electronics and extends its market reach primarily in Europe and North America.

Matthias Rebellius, a member of the managing board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure, highlighted the significance of this acquisition. “This is an important milestone that adds value to our fast-growing eMobility charging business. In addition to expanding our offering, we see digitalization and software potential with regard to energy and depot management and services,” said Rebellius. Siemens eMobility, a division under Siemens Smart Infrastructure, specializes in IoT-enabled hardware, software, and services for AC and DC charging, ranging from 11 to 300 kW.

The acquisition will notably expand Siemens eMobility’s offerings tailored for the rapidly growing eBus and eTruck fast charging markets. Heliox, headquartered in the Netherlands and employing around 330 people, brings to the table an impressive portfolio of products and solutions that focus on DC fast charging for commercial vehicle fleets. Siemens is acquiring Heliox from private equity firm Waterland and an entity owned by a group of employees and individual shareholders.

This acquisition also aims to fast-track Siemens’ position in the eMobility sector by adding attractive digitalization and software capabilities. Siemens eMobility is well-known for its comprehensive charging solutions, and the inclusion of Heliox’s technology will augment Siemens’ services related to energy and depot management. With this strategic acquisition, Siemens envisions cementing its leadership in the fast-evolving eMobility landscape, primarily in Europe and North America.
