Skyloom Global Corp, a forerunner in space-based telecommunications, and Satellogic Inc., a NASDAQ-listed leader in submeter Earth Observation (EO) data, have inked an agreement to incorporate Skyloom’s Optical Communications Terminal (OCT) onto Satellogic’s satellites. This move comes as part of an initiative to explore innovative high-resolution EO data delivery methods.
Utilizing Skyloom’s Advanced Optical Communications Terminal
Through Skyloom’s OCT, Satellogic aims to test groundbreaking methods in high-resolution Earth Observation data delivery via SkyCompass-1, a geostationary-based (GEO) lasercom network. This network has been developed in collaboration with Space Compass. The partnership will also involve direct downlinking to a gateway within the visual range of the low-altitude image area, which is expected to drastically reduce latency times.
Low Earth Orbit to Ground Link Commissioning
In its initial commissioning phase, Satellogic’s spacecraft will undertake a low Earth orbit (LEO)-to-ground link by establishing a connection with Skyloom’s optical ground station in Broomfield, Colorado. This follows an earlier feasibility study that focused on the capacity of Satellogic’s Mark-V platform to initiate lasercom links.
Vivek Agarwal, President – APJI (Enterprise), Corporate Development, Tech Mahindra, said, “The personal cyber insurance market is growing rapidly and remains relatively untapped. This presents a significant opportunity for us to create a strong presence in this market. Our offering of comprehensive end-to-end products in this domain places us in a favorable position for cross-selling and appealing to new market segments.”
Collaboration with Space Compass
Skyloom, along with its partner Space Compass, recently completed the Critical Design Review for the SkyCompass-1 optical communications network infrastructure. This network is expected to offer services beginning in 2025 and covers various segments including space, ground, user, and network.
Satellogic’s Proven Expertise in Earth Observation
Satellogic brings more than a decade of expertise to the table, designing, manufacturing, and operating its proprietary submeter EO satellites. With 15 successful missions already under its belt, Satellogic plans to expand its fleet to include over 200 satellites for daily global remaps. SpaceX is the company’s preferred rideshare launch partner.
In summary, the strategic partnership between Skyloom Global Corp and Satellogic paves the way for significant advancements in space-based telecommunications and high-resolution Earth Observation data.
