Russian Baltic Complex Project : DL E&C bags €1.2bn chemical plant contract

South Korea-based DL E&C Co. has bagged a contract worth around €1.17 billion to take part in the Russian Baltic Complex Project located at Ust-Luga in northwestern Russia.

The project will involve the construction of a mega-scale gas chemical plant, which is aimed at having an annual production of three million tons of polyethylene, 120,000 tons of butane, and 50,000 tons of hexane.

The heart of the project is to build a polymer plant, 110km southwest of St. Petersburg.

DL E&C won the contract from China National Chemical Engineering No. 7 Construction Company (CC7), which is the original contractor of the Russian Baltic Complex Project. Since December 2019, the South Korean contractor has been involved in the basic project design of the Russian petrochemical complex.

Yoo Jae-ho — DL E&C plant business division head said: “This project is meaningful in that we won a big order in Russia, a market regarded as a high barrier to entry for Korean construction companies.

“We would strengthen our digital innovation and BIM-based design ability to solidify our position in the expanding Russian market.”
