Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD) platform assets reach $384bn as equity trading jumps 68%

Robinhood ended August with $383.7 billion of platform assets as equity trading, margin balances and event contracts expanded sharply, while crypto activity remained below last year.

Robinhood Markets, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD) ended August 2026 with approximately $383.7 billion of total platform assets, an increase of 8% from July and 26% from a year earlier, while funded customers reached 28.6 million. Net deposits were $4 billion during the month, bringing twelve-month net deposits to $74.1 billion and highlighting continued movement of customer capital onto the platform.

Equity notional trading volume reached $335.4 billion, up 68% year over year, while options volume increased 50% to 292.5 million contracts. Crypto notional volume rebounded 61% sequentially to $17.5 billion, although it remained 38% below August 2025 levels.

Why does the $384 billion platform-asset figure matter more than trading volumes alone?

Robinhood’s earliest public-market narrative depended heavily on transaction activity from retail traders, making revenue sensitive to market enthusiasm. The growing platform-asset base increasingly gives the company other monetisation channels, including margin lending, cash products, advisory services and securities-related income.

Platform assets rose from $303.9 billion in August 2025 to $383.7 billion in August 2026. That roughly $80 billion increase expands the financial base on which Robinhood can generate revenue even when trading volumes fluctuate.

Margin balances are developing particularly quickly. They reached $21.5 billion at the end of August, up 72% year over year, while cash and deposit balances rose 37% to $19.6 billion. Those figures suggest Robinhood is becoming more deeply embedded in customers’ financial activity rather than functioning only as an execution venue for occasional trades.

What do the August crypto and prediction-market figures reveal?

Crypto presents a mixed picture. August volume increased 61% from July, with Robinhood App crypto activity climbing 72% and Bitstamp volume increasing 53%. Yet total crypto notional trading remained 38% lower than a year earlier, showing that a powerful monthly rebound has not restored the previous year’s activity level.

Prediction markets show the opposite pattern. Robinhood processed 4.7 billion event contracts during August, down 23% from July but approximately 15 times the volume recorded a year earlier. Average daily event-contract volume reached 152 million, around 14 times August 2025.

That contrast matters strategically. Crypto remains large but cyclical, while prediction markets have emerged from a very small base into a meaningful engagement category. Whether event contracts ultimately contribute profits comparable with brokerage, interest income or crypto remains a separate question, but their adoption gives Robinhood another reason for customers to remain active inside the ecosystem.

What does recent Robinhood stock performance say about investor expectations?

Robinhood shares closed at $113.59 on September 10, down 1.47% for the session and extending a retreat from the $124.72 close recorded on September 3. The August operating data were released after the September 10 regular market session, meaning that closing move cannot be treated as the market’s reaction to the new monthly figures.

That distinction matters because several August indicators were constructive. Customer assets grew strongly, equity volumes were up 68% year over year, margin balances increased 72%, and event-contract activity remained multiples above last year. Offsetting that strength were softer sequential options activity, lower securities-lending revenue and crypto volumes that still lagged the previous year.

Robinhood’s investment case is therefore becoming broader but also more complicated. The platform is no longer driven by one trading category, and its expanding asset base can create more recurring revenue opportunities. Investors will now be looking for evidence that diversification translates into steadier earnings rather than simply adding more volatile activity streams.
