Richardson Malting acquires Anglia Maltings to expand international malt production

Richardson Malting, a UK-based subsidiary of Canadian agriculture and food processing giant Richardson International, has acquired Ragleth Limited, the holding company for Anglia Maltings (Holdings) Limited.

This strategic move is in response to the escalating global demand for malt, predominantly spurred by brewing and distilling industries, marking a major development in the international malt production arena.

Anglia Maltings, with its headquarters in , England, operates seven malt facilities across the UK, Poland, and . With a combined capacity of 440,000 MT, the organization has an extensive business portfolio that includes Crisp Malt, Micronized Food Products (MFP), and EDME Food Ingredients.

Crisp Malt, a key player in the global malt industry, partners with local farmers to procure top-quality malted barley for breweries, distilleries, and the worldwide food industry. Meanwhile, MFP is known for its specialized production of cereals and pulses used in brewing and animal feed. EDME Food Ingredients offers both malted and non-malted products to the baking industry, further broadening Anglia Maltings’ market reach.

The acquisition comes as part of Richardson International’s ongoing strategy for expansion and investment to meet the growing needs of its international clientele. This follows a series of substantial capital investments in oilseed and milling processing facilities in North America and Europe made by the company in 2021. The same year, Richardson also added Italgrani , the largest durum miller in North America and a significant semolina flour supplier to international pasta markets, to its portfolio.

With this latest development, 360 employees from Anglia Maltings will be incorporated into Richardson’s wider group of companies spread across Canada, the US, and Europe, further bolstering its global workforce.
