Patel Engineering Limited (PEL), in collaboration with its joint venture partner, has been awarded a substantial Rs. 317.60 crore contract by the Office of the Executive Engineer, Government of Maharashtra. The contract entails the construction of water lifting arrangements for the first stage of the Jigaon project, encompassing civil, mechanical, electrical components, and allied works. This project is scheduled for completion within 24 months.

The awarded project is located in Maharashtra and will be executed as a joint venture, with Patel Engineering holding a 35% share. The scope of work includes the construction of water lifting arrangements for LIS 1 to 12 of the first stage from the submergence of the Jigaon project. This also involves the development of an approach channel, rising main, pumping machinery, switchyard, and other civil, mechanical, and electrical components.

Patel Engineering Limited, a company with a 75-year legacy since its establishment in 1949, boasts a strong presence in hydropower, irrigation, tunnels, and underground works for hydroelectric and dam projects. The company has a consistent track record of executing projects both domestically and internationally. Patel Engineering has completed over 85 dams, 40 hydroelectric projects, and more than 300 km of tunnelling, primarily for central public sector undertakings or state government organisations.

Recent contracts secured by Patel Engineering

In recent months, Patel Engineering Limited has continued to expand its portfolio with several notable contracts. The company, in a joint venture, was declared the lowest bidder for a Rs. 3,637.12 crore contract for NHPC’s 2,880-MW Dibang multipurpose project in Arunachal Pradesh, which is currently India’s largest hydropower project. Patel Engineering’s share in this contract is Rs. 1,818.56 crore, and the project is expected to be completed in 86 months​.

Additionally, Patel Engineering received a Letter of Acceptance for a Rs. 525.36 crore contract in Khammam City, Telangana. This contract, also secured in partnership with a joint venture, involves substantial infrastructure development, further solidifying the company’s presence in the region.

Dr. Ravi Kumar, a renowned expert in civil engineering and infrastructure development, believes that this Maharashtra irrigation project will significantly impact the agricultural sector in the state. “The Jigaon project will revolutionise water management practices, leading to more efficient irrigation and higher agricultural yields,” said Dr. Kumar. He further added that Patel Engineering’s extensive experience in executing large-scale projects would be crucial in overcoming potential challenges and ensuring the project’s success.
