Oracle makes bold move to redefine cloud database standards with launch of Exadata Exascale
Oracle has launched Exadata Exascale, marking a significant advancement in cloud database technology. This new intelligent data architecture is designed to provide extreme performance across all Oracle Database workloads, including AI vector processing, analytics, and transactions, regardless of scale. With the introduction of Exadata Exascale available through the Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure and Oracle Database 23ai on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Oracle is set to redefine industry standards. This solution promises a dramatic reduction in infrastructure costs by up to 95 percent, making powerful database capabilities accessible to organizations of all sizes.
Kothanda Umamageswaran, senior vice president of Exadata and Scale-Out Technologies at Oracle, emphasized that Exadata Exascale is a complete reimagination of Exadata, tailored for a multi-tenant, hyper-elastic cloud environment. This represents a transformative shift in Oracle’s cloud services approach, enabling small workloads and businesses to harness the power of Oracle Exadata for Oracle Databases in the cloud at an affordable cost.
Exadata Exascale introduces several innovative features that meet a wide array of data management needs. It offers elastic, pay-per-use resources, allowing users to adjust their database server ECPUs and storage based on their specific needs without any extra charge for IOPS. This approach eliminates the necessity for dedicated database and storage servers, significantly reducing the cost of entry-level infrastructure for the Exadata Database Service. Additionally, Exadata Exascale features the world’s only RDMA-capable storage cloud, enhancing data management with intelligent storage that distributes databases across all available servers and uses data-aware, intelligent Smart Scan to accelerate query processing.
Luis Mediero, director of Cloud and Data Solutions at Quistor, praised the flexibility and efficiency of Exadata Exascale, highlighting its potential to streamline workload management and migration to high-performance environments. This scalability and performance capability are crucial for businesses aiming to grow and maintain a competitive edge in today’s rapidly evolving market.
Carl Olofson, research vice president at IDC, noted the strategic impact of Oracle’s innovation, stating that the move to adapt to the cloud’s dynamism and flexibility is critical for modern enterprises. Oracle’s long-standing prowess in database systems, combined with the flexibility of its second-generation cloud infrastructure, has enabled the delivery of a comprehensive, intelligent data architecture that merges the benefits of Exadata with the efficiencies of cloud technology.
Oracle’s introduction of Exadata Exascale is poised to transform the landscape of cloud databases, offering unmatched efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. This strategic development not only responds to current market demands but also sets a new benchmark for future advancements in cloud database technology.
