Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project : Synertec wins contract for CMS

Synertec Corporation said that it has bagged a contract from Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) and Rail Systems Alliance (RSA) pertaining to Melbourne’s new AUD 11 billion ($8.13) Metro Tunnel Project.

Under the terms of the contract, the Australian engineering services company will deliver the advanced control and monitoring system (CMS) for the operation of the metropolitan rail infrastructure project.

The contract is worth around AUD 3 million ($2.22 million) if completed in full with a completion date of December 2024.

The control and monitoring system will be used for enabling the safe and reliable operation of the new Metro Tunnel transit line.

According to Synertec, the control and monitoring system will give rail operators —critical operational interfaces to the tunnel, the stations and station plant and equipment at various control rooms, which are distributed throughout the tunnel system.

Functions of the Metro Tunnel Project CMS include supervisory control and monitoring of all plant equipment, alarm and event management, an advanced graphical user interface, reporting and historical data storage, and process data trending.

Apart from that, the control and monitoring system provided by Synertec will integrate various systems. These include the train positioning system, CCTV system, platform screen doors, security systems, building management system, electrical systems, fire detection system, and tunnel ventilation control system.

The Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project will involve the construction of twin 9km rail tunnels between Kensington to South Yarra along with five underground station facilities.
