Lviv devastated, Ukraine cries foul over delayed Western aid
In the latest development in the Ukrainian conflict, Russian missile strikes in the western city of Lviv have resulted in three fatalities, as confirmed by city Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.
The Mayor also mentioned on his Telegram channel that the attacks led to eight people sustaining injuries and substantial damage to local property, including around 60 apartments and 50 cars.
This grim news comes on the heels of another drone attack perpetrated by Russia on the northern Ukrainian city of Sumy, which claimed two lives and injured 19. The city administration reported that the attack involved four drones and targeted an official building along with two residential ones.
These recent incidents have highlighted Ukraine’s inadequate air defense capabilities, an issue President Volodymyr Zelensky has openly acknowledged. According to him, the country lacks sufficient high-quality air defense systems to protect its entire territory and neutralize all enemy targets. However, Zelensky has vowed to undertake all feasible measures to strengthen the nation’s air defenses, envisioning them as a foundation for a European air shield in the future.
Further, Zelensky and Ukraine’s military commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny have voiced their dissatisfaction with the West’s slow delivery of weapons. In a CNN interview, Zelensky noted that the delay has negatively impacted Ukraine’s counteroffensive operation against Russia. Zaluzhny echoed this frustration, expressing discontent over Western criticisms about the sluggish progress of Ukraine’s push against Russian forces.
