Hyatt announces first Hyatt Centric Hotel in Puerto Rico, enhancing Isla Verde’s touristic appeal

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H), in collaboration with Interlink and Vivo Beach Club, has unveiled plans for the first Hyatt Centric branded hotel in Puerto Rico. Located in the vibrant Isla Verde neighborhood, the Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde is set to become a prime destination for travelers seeking a luxurious and culturally immersive experience.

Set just one block from the award-winning Isla Verde Beach and within walking distance to numerous attractions, the Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde promises an ideal location for guests eager to explore the area’s rich offerings. The hotel is currently undergoing a comprehensive $25 million enhancement project, which includes the renovation of all guestrooms, suites, and public spaces. These renovations are designed to reflect Puerto Rico’s enchanting landscape, incorporating elements that highlight the island’s unique land and sea features.

Upon completion, the hotel will boast 223 guestrooms and offer a variety of amenities designed to enhance the guest experience. These include a modern fitness center, extensive meeting space totaling over 16,000 square feet, and a resort-style pool deck. The property will feature a communal space that serves as the social hub, complete with a signature restaurant & bar, an open-air beer garden, and a coffee shop that showcases local flavors.

Additionally, guests will enjoy complimentary access to the facilities of Vivo Beach Club, which offers a range of dining and entertainment options, including a micro-brewery and a large outdoor concert stage.

The introduction of the Hyatt Centric brand to Puerto Rico is part of a broader strategy to capitalize on the island’s growing popularity as a tourist destination. “Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde will be situated in the heart of the Isla Verde neighborhood, allowing guests to truly experience the locale but also discover other nearby beaches and attractions that spark curiosity and connection,” said Camilo Bolaños, senior vice president of development for Latin America & the Caribbean at Hyatt.

Federico J. Sánchez Ortiz, President and CEO of Interlink, along with Luis and Matías Fernández, co-owners of Vivo Beach Club, expressed their pride in this collaboration, emphasizing the hotel’s role as an authentic home base for exploring Puerto Rico.

The project has received endorsements from local government and tourism leaders, underlining its significance to the island’s economic and touristic development. Governor Pedro R. Pierluisi lauded the initiative, noting its potential to bolster Puerto Rico’s status as a top Caribbean destination. Carlos Mercado, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, highlighted the addition as a testament to the local hospitality industry’s commitment to enhancing tourism offerings.

The hotel will be managed by Highgate Hotels, a leader in the hospitality management sector, known for its extensive portfolio that includes several other properties in Puerto Rico. This management arrangement promises a high standard of service and operational excellence.

The establishment of the Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde is poised to make a significant impact on Puerto Rico’s tourism landscape. By combining luxurious accommodations with rich cultural experiences and robust local collaborations, Hyatt is setting a new standard for travel in the Caribbean.
