Hero MotoCorp April 2021 sales drop to 372,285 units amid Covid-19 crisis

Indian two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp said that it had registered sales of 372,285 motorcycles and scooters during April 2021, which include 339,329 motorcycles and 32,956 scooters.

In India, the company sold 342,614 two wheelers during April 2021, while recording 29,671 sales through exports.

For the record, the automobile manufacturer had sold 576,957 motorcycles and scooters in March 2021.

Hero MotoCorp said that the lower sales in April were driven by temporary suspension and closure of plant operations and retail outlets in several key regions in India due to the rampaging second wave of Covid-19.

According to the two-wheeler manufacturer, sales numbers of April 2021 cannot be compared to the same month as no vehicles were manufactured and dispatched to dealers at that time because of the countrywide lockdown during the onset of Covid-19 in India.

In its efforts to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, Hero MotoCorp will extend the shutdown at its manufacturing facilities throughout India, its Global Parts Center in Neemrana in Rajasthan and the R&D facility – the Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur till 9 May 2021.

In light the rampant escalation in the spread of Covid-19 across India, Hero MotoCorp said that it had to proactively suspend the plant operations temporarily in a staggered fashion for four days from 22 April to 1 May.

All the company’s corporate offices are in Work from Home (WFH) mode and a minute number of employees are coming to offices on rotation basis for the continuity of essential services.

Hero MotoCorp stated: “The company is continuously monitoring the situation and aims to compensate for the production loss during the remainder of the quarter.”

In April, the India-based motorcycles and scooters manufacturer launched a virtual showroom feature for providing an immersive digital buying experience to its customers.
