HCL Technologies opens 5G O-RAN lab in India to enable 5G transition
HCL Technologies said that it has opened a 5G Open Radio Access Network lab (5G O-RAN lab) in India for helping global telecom industry players to shift to a 5G network.
The 5G O-RAN lab will offer telecom service providers with multi-vendor options for transitioning to a more open, intelligent, virtualized, and completely interoperable 5G mobile network to deliver an improved experience to end-users, said the Indian IT company.
According to HCL Technologies, the benefits of O-RAN architecture include increased market competition, customer choice, lesser equipment costs, and enhanced network performance.
The company further stated that 5G O-RAN systems will enable businesses in transforming their network capabilities and will drive opportunities for creating new, immersive user experiences and services.
Commenting on the 5G O-RAN lab in India, Vijay Anand Guntur — HCL Technologies Corporate Vice President of Engineering and R&D Services said: “This lab will enable a broad community of O-RAN component suppliers, driven by innovation and open market competition to test the interoperability of products, which will enable smoother rollouts for 5G network providers.
“As the O-RAN ecosystem opens, new players have a unique opportunity to provide open radio- and intelligence-focused solutions that will ensure reliable 5G network experience. This HCL lab will help both vendors and 5G network providers to accelerate their deployments and improve costs.”
