GS Foods acquires Connecticut-based food distributor Thurston Foods

GS Foods Group, a US-based specialized food distributor owned by affiliates of Highview Capital and A&M Capital Partners, has acquired Thurston Foods for an undisclosed price.

Based in Wallingford, Connecticut, Thurston Foods is a full-service food distributor.

With over 50 years of industry expertise, GS Foods is said to encompass a collection of specialist foodservice companies that offer food distribution and products across the US.

The company’s acquisition of Thurston Foods is its largest to date, and will considerably increase its presence throughout the Northeastern region. This is expected to enable GS Foods to reach more customers to supply products for end-markets such as education, foodservice, and retail.

Thurston Foods, which was founded in 1947, is said to distribute more than 7,500 products to cater to various sectors of the foodservice sector including hospitals, schools, restaurants, health care facilities, and others.

The current service regions of Thurston Foods include Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, New Jersey, and New Hampshire.

Moving forward, Thurston Foods’ leadership team is expected to work in close collaboration with GS Foods as the two firms anticipate a smooth change and continual operational excellence in the interests of the existing customers and the surrounding community of the former.
