Granite Construction to execute pedestrian overpass project in Bellevue
Granite Construction Inc. has bagged a contract worth around $16 million from King County for executing a pedestrian overpass project in Bellevue, Washington.
The pedestrian overpass project, which will be funded by King County and Sound Transit, is expected to be included in the first quarter CAP of Granite Construction. It is projected to begin in March 2022 and is expected to be wrapped up in June 2023.
According to Granite Construction, the pedestrian overpass project is an important part of the Eastrail program, under which 42 miles of abandoned railroad is being converted into a regional trail to connect Eastside communities from Renton to Snohomish.
The scope of Granite Construction’s work includes the construction of an elevated pedestrian bridge across NE 8th Street near the Sound Transit Wilburton Station. The company will also be responsible for undertaking related work to enhance pedestrian traffic between NE 6th Street and NE 10th Street.
Mike Stein — Granite Construction Vice President of Regional Operations said: “We have successfully built a number of structural steel truss bridges in the area, including the Tolt River Bridge. This project continues our long-standing partnership with King County to deliver projects that connect our communities.
“The Eastside Corridor Regional Trail NE 8th Street Crossing allows us to maintain continuity for our structures team with a highly architectural structure.”
