Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd (GPIL) said that it has secured permission from the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board for boosting iron ore production from its Ari Dongri Iron Ore Mines in the state to 2.35 million tonnes per year (MTPA).

The approval is for the company’s existing mining lease area of 138.96 hectares in Kachche village in Bhanupratappur tehsil, Uttar Bastar (Kanker) district.

In late June, Godawari Power and Ispat received environmental clearance from the Indian government’s Ministry of Environment & Forests & Climate Change, Impact Assessment Division for increasing the production capacity of the Ari Dongri Iron Ore Mines. The company was also given environmental clearance for establishing an associated beneficiation plant with a capacity of 0.6MTPA from the Indian government.

Godawari Power and Ispat at that time said that after starting commercial operation of enhanced mining capacity and ramping up the production, all the iron ore requirements of the company will be met from captive mines. The company said that the move will result in significant cost savings, as nearly 20% of the existing requirement is met from external purchases, which are very high when compared to market prices.
