GACL, NTPC to partner on renewable energy and green chemicals
Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) and NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC-REL), a fully-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to partner in the field of renewable energy and green chemicals.
Owned by the Gujarat government, Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited is a chemical and alkalis manufacturer.
The MoU calls for the parties to assess the business opportunities of mutual interest in the areas of procuring renewable power through a mix of solar, wind, and other clean energy such as energy storage solutions. The sourcing could be for a requirement of nearly 100MW of clean energy for powering the operations and manufacturing of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited at its Vadodara complex and/or Dahej complex or any of its other complexes.
The signing of the MoU was done by Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals managing director Harshad R Patel and NTPC Renewable Energy CEO Mohit Bhargava.
Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited and NTPC Renewable Energy will also collaborate on synthesizing green chemicals like ammonia and methanol for captive use by the former using the hydrogen and CO2 available with it.
Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited stated: “This is a first-of-its-kind novel initiative between leading CPSE and State Government Promoted Company to support the country’s commitment to achieve renewable energy targets and reduce greenhouse emissions.”
