Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories launches ephedrine sulfate injection generic in US

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories has launched Ephedrine Sulfate Injection USP, 50 mg/mL, a generic version of Exela Sterile Medicines’ hypotension drug Akovaz (ephedrine sulfate injection) Injection, 50 mg/mL, in the US following approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).

The Ephedrine Sulfate Injection USP, 50 mg/mL is a clear, colorless, sterile solution. It is intended to be given as an intravenous injection and supplied as a 1mL fill in a 2mL clear glass single-dose vial with purple flip-off cap.

According to Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, each mL has 50 mg of ephedrine sulfate USP, equivalent to 38mg ephedrine base.

According to IQVIA Health, the Akovaz brand and generic market had sales of around $67.5 million MAT in the US for the most recent 12 months ending in August 2021.
