DentalMonitoring introduces AI-driven orthodontic update leveraging FDA approval
DentalMonitoring, a global leader in Artificial Intelligence-powered remote orthodontic monitoring, has unveiled a significant software update, bringing advanced features to orthodontic care. This update is based on the company’s De Novo approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received in May 2024. It represents a leap forward in how practitioners monitor and optimize orthodontic treatment remotely, combining innovation and patient-centered convenience.
The platform uses advanced AI algorithms to analyze intraoral scans submitted by patients through the DentalMonitoring app paired with the ScanBoxpro phone holder. These scans provide orthodontists with real-time insights into treatment progress, allowing for tailored decision-making that improves outcomes and reduces the need for frequent in-office visits.
Clinical Research Supports FDA-Validated Capabilities
The FDA approval followed an extensive clinical study program that included over 2,650 patients across 29 sites in North America, generating more than 13,000 clinical results. These studies demonstrated the software’s ability to monitor orthodontic conditions with exceptional accuracy, setting a new benchmark for the dental field.
The updated platform offers a broad range of capabilities to orthodontists, including monitoring for archwire passivity, bracket debonding, aligner seating issues, open and overbite detection, and midline deviation. These features ensure orthodontic professionals have robust tools to track and manage treatment between in-office appointments, improving efficiency without compromising patient care.
SmartSTL: A Breakthrough in Orthodontic Workflows
One standout feature introduced with the update is SmartSTL, a tool that enables orthodontists to request production-ready STL files directly from the DentalMonitoring dashboard. These files are essential for creating aligners or retainers and eliminate the need for traditional in-office intraoral scans. First launched in Europe, this feature has now been made available in the United States, streamlining the creation of midcourse aligner corrections and other appliances.
This innovation significantly reduces patient visits while maintaining the precision needed for effective treatment. By integrating SmartSTL, DentalMonitoring has redefined how orthodontic professionals can adapt treatment plans without disrupting their workflow or requiring additional patient scans.
DentalMonitoring Sets a New Standard of Care
Philippe Salah, CEO and co-founder of DentalMonitoring, highlighted that the FDA approval and subsequent software update mark a pivotal moment in the company’s history. He noted that the platform’s development reflects a decade of dedication to deep learning AI, positioning DentalMonitoring as the first and only Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) approved to monitor orthodontic treatments remotely.
The company emphasizes that the software is designed to support orthodontists by providing actionable clinical data but is not a substitute for professional care. The platform is approved for use in patients aged six and older and focuses exclusively on permanent teeth, ensuring safety and reliability.
Reshaping Orthodontics with AI Innovation
With this update, DentalMonitoring continues to push the boundaries of orthodontic care, empowering practitioners with AI-driven tools that enhance patient experiences and optimize clinical efficiency. By reducing the frequency of office visits while maintaining robust oversight, the company is redefining how orthodontic care is delivered in a modern, technology-driven world.
