Bharti Airtel boosts network connectivity in Bankura district for comprehensive rural coverage
In a landmark initiative designed to bridge the digital divide, Bharti Airtel, one of India’s premier telecommunications service providers, today unveiled a significant network enhancement in the Bankura district of West Bengal. This ambitious project seeks to densify and augment the company’s network across a vast swath of rural areas, covering 3069 villages and benefiting an estimated 28.3 million residents across various tehsils including Bankura, Barjora, Vishnupur, Gangajalghati, Indus, Sonamukhi, and Raipur.
This network enhancement project is a testament to Airtel’s ongoing commitment to providing seamless, high-speed connectivity to India’s rural populace, facilitating access to essential digital services for work, education, and entertainment. In the current year, Airtel has significantly increased its capital expenditure in the state, doubling down on its commitment to enhancing network connectivity. This includes improvements across 4G, 5G, broadband, and fiber services, ensuring a seamless and high-quality experience for its customers.
The initiative is part of a broader rural enhancement project that spans across West Bengal, touching upon districts like Alipurduar, Barddhaman, Birbhum, and many others, aiming to empower rural communities with the power of high-speed connectivity. Nationally, Airtel’s rural enhancement project is set to augment network connectivity across 60,000 villages by 2024, with West Bengal being a focal market. To date, the company has already enhanced its network coverage across 37,661 villages in the state, underscoring its commitment to expanding digital access.
Additionally, Airtel has bolstered its fiber network presence in West Bengal by deploying additional capacities to cater to the growing demand for high-speed data services. This enhancement not only augments Airtel’s network capacity but also extends its services deeper into unconnected rural areas. With the expanded network and fiber capacities, Airtel’s coverage now spans all key urban, semi-urban, and rural locales in the region, including highways, tourist destinations, and trade centers.
