Bharat Forge, Harbinger Motors to develop electric powertrains for trucks

Kalyani Powertrain, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian automotive forging company Bharat Forge, is set to create a joint venture (JV) with Harbinger Motors, a US-based commercial electric vehicle (EV) company, to develop electric drivetrains for commercial trucks.

Named as ElectroForge, the JV will utilize the strengths of the two companies in providing drivetrains for the Class 3 through 8 markets. It will initially start operations at the Pune facility of Kalyani Powertrain in India.

Leveraging Kalyani Powertrain’s global manufacturing experience in India, Europe, and North America, the JV will be a volume manufacturer of electric powertrains for Harbinger Motors.

ElectroForge will leverage electric vehicle innovations made by Harbinger Motors and Bharat Forge’s manufacturing experience and scalability to offer low-mass drivetrains with an advanced architecture designed to meet the durability and performance requirements of commercial vehicles.
