Bharat Electronics opens SDC Visakhapatnam to provide Software as a Service

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence public service undertaking (PSU), has opened a new software development centre (SDC) in Visakhapatnam.

The Indian government-owned aerospace and defence electronics company said that the new centre will provide “Software as a Service” for multiple applications in the domains of Defence and non-Defence.

Vinay Kumar Katyal, who is the Director of Bharat Electronics’ Bengaluru complex has inaugurated the SDC Visakhapatnam recently. The new location will serve as the expansion of Bharat Electronics’ Software Strategic Business Unit (SBU) in the Bengaluru Complex.

The software division of Bharat Electronics has been able to implement a variety of initiatives of national significance in the areas of defence, aerospace, e-governance, homeland security, and others over the past several years.

Equipped with modern IT infrastructure that is secure and safe and catering to critical applications, the Visakhapatnam centre will allow Bharat Electronics to provide value-added software solutions throughout the lifespan of different naval platforms. The new software development centre will also undertake software intensive joint development projects with DRDO and provide software solutions to Smart City and Home Land Security needs.

The Visakhapatnam center will house approximately 150 engineers.
