Baltim South West project : Eni and BP have started production from the Baltim South West gas field in the Egyptian waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Baltim South West gas field is located in the Baltim South development lease, located in the shallow waters of Nile Delta, and contained in 25m of water depth. The offshore gas field is located 12 km off the Mediterranean coastline and 10km from the producing Nooros gas field.
Contained within the Great Nooros area, the Baltim South West gas field was discovered by Eni in June 2016. A final investment decision (FID) on the Baltim South West project was taken in January 2018.
After the first well BSW 1 has been brought on stream, the offshore Egyptian gas field is now having an initial production rate of 100 million standard cubic feet per day (scf/d). Production is being carried out from the new Baltim South West platform, which via a new 44 km-long pipeline is connected to the existing onshore Abu Madi Gas Plant.
Eni will drill another five wells to achieve a production target of 500 million scf/d from the Baltim South West gas field by Q2 2020.
The gas produced from the Baltim South West project will further add up to the natural gas export capacity of Egypt.
According to Eni, the total gas potential from the Great Nooros Area is about three trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas in place, of which two tcf are in the Nooros gas field and the rest of it in the Baltim South West gas field.
Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC, and BP hold 50% interest of the contractor’s stake in the development lease of Baltim South.
Petrobel, the operating company jointly owned by IEOC and Egyptian state oil company Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) on behalf of Medgas, is executing the Baltim South West project. Medgas, in turn, is jointly owned by contractor – Eni and BP, and EGPC.
