AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region : AWS launches second infrastructure region in India

Amazon Web Services (AWS), an arm of Amazon.com, has unveiled its second AWS infrastructure region in India — the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region and along with it an investment commitment of over $4.4bn (around INR 36,300 crores) by 2030.

The AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region will enable entrepreneurs, enterprises, developers, startups, as well as government, education, and nonprofit organizations to run their applications and cater to end users from data centers situated in India.

KT Rama Rao — Telangana Minister of Information Technology (IT), Industries and Commerce, Municipal Administration, and Urban Development said: “We welcome AWS’s commitment to invest approximately INR 36,300 crores in the AWS Region in Hyderabad, which strengthens Telangana’s position as a progressive data center hub in India.

“We recognize the power of cloud computing, which is why we have collaborated with AWS to improve e-governance, healthcare, and municipal operations to benefit the citizens of Telangana. We are pleased that the new AWS Region in Hyderabad will spur more innovation and growth for many enterprises, startups, and public sector organizations in India.”

With access to advanced AWS technologies, customers can push innovation including security, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

Prasad Kalyanaraman — AWS Infrastructure Services vice president said: “The launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region supports India’s digital transformation and is part of our long-term investment in the country since opening our first office in 2011.

“Customers and partners in India will now have additional regional infrastructure to deploy applications with greater resilience, availability, and even lower latency.”

AWS, following the opening of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region, now has 96 Availability Zones spread over 30 geographic regions.

The Amazon.com company is planning to establish 15 more Availability Zones and another five AWS Regions in Australia, Israel, Canada, Thailand, and New Zealand.

The cloud infrastructure service provider said that the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region is projected to support an average of over 48,000 full-time jobs per year.

The AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region, through its construction and operation, is also projected to contribute around $7.6bn (nearly INR 63,600 crores) to the Indian gross domestic product by the end of the current decade.
