Arche Solar project : BP begins construction on 134MWdc plant in Ohio
BP has begun the construction of its 134MWdc Arche Solar project in Fulton County, Ohio to address greenhouse-gas emissions and support green energy growth in the US.
The Arche Solar project is part of BP’s plans to develop 20GW of net renewable generating capacity by 2025 and 50GW by 2030.
The solar power project in Ohio is expected to eliminate more than 155,900 metric tons of greenhouse-gas emissions annually, which is equivalent to 34,000 fuel-burning cars.
The Arche Solar project is anticipated to create approximately 200 US jobs across the supply chain during construction and offer over $30 million in revenue during its lifetime.
BP, which aims to become a net zero company by 2050, has entered into a power-purchase agreement (PPA) with Meta for the Arche solar power plant.

Upon its completion, the Arche Solar project will produce sufficient green power yearly to light up more than 20,000 homes in the US.

“In addition to adding new energy to the grid, we are proud that this project will bring additional jobs and investment to Ohio.”
McCarthy Building Companies’ Renewable Energy & Storage unit was contracted to install First Solar’s ultra-low carbon solar panels and Nextracker’s smart solar trackers for the project.
Lightsource bp, which is BP’s 50:50 joint-venture partner, has developed the project and is managing construction.
BP anticipates to start commercial operations of the Arche Solar project in early 2024.
