Apollo Hospitals announced a far-reaching partnership with Google Cloud to democratize healthcare access across India via Apollo’s digital platform, Apollo 24|7. The collaboration intends to provide an omnichannel healthcare experience, offering telemedicine services, online doctor consultations, and medication home delivery. The digital platform is built entirely on Google Cloud technologies and aims to particularly benefit rural areas, which currently lack sufficient healthcare infrastructure.
Telemedicine and AI: The Core of Apollo 24|7
The key aspects of the Apollo 24|7 platform include an AI-powered Clinical Intelligence Engine (CIE) created in conjunction with Google Cloud’s Vertex AI and generative AI models. Designed to aid doctors in identifying the most effective actions during patient consultations, the CIE utilizes data from Apollo Hospitals and Google Cloud’s large language models. All patient data is securely stored within Apollo Hospitals’ systems.
Patient Navigation with AskApollo Service
The platform also features AskApollo, a patient-facing service built atop Apollo’s CIE. Developed from millions of real-world clinical data points, AskApollo serves as a first-of-its-kind care navigation service. It uses Google Cloud’s advanced AI and machine learning technologies for data analysis.
Apollo 24|7’s Technical Backbone
Apollo 24|7’s technical infrastructure is highly scalable, thanks to Google Cloud and its partner Searce. With zero downtime, Apollo 24|7 has deployed 78 microservices and over 40 databases on Google Cloud. The platform’s data lake is built on Google BigQuery, consolidating data onto a single platform for improved clinical decision-making.
Google and Apollo Enhance Healthcare Information
In addition, Google has been working with Apollo Hospitals to provide credible healthcare information through Google Search features. Both entities plan to further collaborate to make diagnostic procedures more accessible, affordable, and accurate.
Shobana Kamineni, Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals, stated that the partnership with Google Cloud will usher in a new era of precision in clinical decision-making. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the transformative potential of generative AI in providing conversational medicine to clinicians and patients.
Both Apollo and Google Cloud place a high emphasis on data governance and privacy, ensuring the secure handling of all patient data. The partnership aims to bring about a radical change in how healthcare is accessed and delivered across India.
