In a significant milestone for both India and the global renewable energy (RE) sector, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has announced that it has exceeded 10,000 megawatts (MW) of operational capacity. This achievement underlines AGEL’s role as a front-runner in the clean energy transition, with its operational portfolio now delivering reliable, affordable, and clean power to the national grid. The current capacity includes 7,393 MW of solar, 1,401 MW of wind, and 2,140 MW of wind-solar hybrid projects.
This milestone is not just a number but a testament to AGEL’s commitment to contributing significantly to India’s renewable energy goals, with the company on a steadfast path toward achieving a target of 45,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030. The operational portfolio of AGEL now powers more than 5.8 million homes and helps in avoiding approximately 21 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, marking a pivotal moment in the journey towards sustainable energy solutions.
AGEL’s rapid growth in the renewable energy space is driven by a blend of innovative technology, digitalization, robust supply chain networks, and sustainable practices. “We are proud to be India’s first das hazari in the renewables space,” stated Mr. Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group. He emphasized AGEL’s journey from a nascent idea to a leader in renewable energy, showcasing the Group’s commitment to facilitating India’s clean energy transition.
The company’s operational portfolio is notable for its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on affordable and clean energy, economic growth, and climate action. AGEL has also achieved significant sustainability milestones, including certifications for being ‘single-use plastic-free’, ‘zero waste-to-landfill’, and ‘water positive for plants with more than 200 MW capacity’.
AGEL’s contribution to India’s renewable energy sector is substantial, representing about 11% of the country’s installed utility-scale solar and wind capacity and over 15% of its utility-scale solar installations. This has not only bolstered India’s green energy capacity but also created over 3,200 direct green jobs.
Looking ahead, AGEL is developing the world’s largest renewable energy project in Khavda, Gujarat, with a capacity of 30,000 MW. This project, spanning an area five times the size of Paris, showcases AGEL’s ambition and the scale of its commitment to renewable energy.
AGEL’s achievement is a significant milestone in the global renewable energy landscape, reflecting the potential of innovative technology and sustainable practices in accelerating the clean energy transition. The company’s focus on digitization, execution capabilities, and sustainable practices is not just setting benchmarks but is redefining the scale and speed of renewable energy development worldwide. As Adani Green Energy Limited continues to expand its operational capacity, its contributions to reducing carbon emissions, creating green jobs, and promoting sustainable development are expected to have lasting impacts on the global energy sector.
