Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has announced a statewide school strike in Telangana to raise concerns about the conditions of the local education system.
The student organization is demanding better infrastructure in government schools, regulation of fees in private institutions, and the immediate appointment of teachers to vacant posts. This call for action brings to the forefront the glaring issues of the Telangana education system, an issue which is increasingly garnering public attention.
The ABVP leaders expressed that the strike has been called to make a strong plea for resolving issues plaguing government schools and to curb the excesses of private institutions. They have insisted on the immediate recruitment for the 15,000 vacant teacher posts across the state. Their demand also extends to the provision of textbooks and uniforms for students in all schools without delay.
During a protest held in front of the Rangareddy district collectorate on Saturday, ABVP state secretary Chinthakayala Jhansi accused the state government of siding with corporate entities and misusing funds meant for elections. He emphasized the need for urgent attention and resolution to the issues within government educational institutions.
Further criticism was directed towards private schools. They alleged that these institutions are fleecing parents by charging exorbitant fees and selling textbooks at inflated prices in violation of norms. ABVP has demanded immediate action against such school managements. They also requested the government to identify and take necessary action against private schools operating without recognition.
The protest highlights the need for a comprehensive reform of the education sector in Telangana, sparking a vital conversation around infrastructural shortcomings, teacher vacancies, and overpricing in schools.
