ABG buys majority stake in spirits distribution company Indie Brands
Amber Beverage Group (ABG), a producer, distributor, and retailer of alcoholic beverages, has acquired a majority stake in UK-based premium spirits distribution company Indie Brands, for an undisclosed price.
Indie Brands, which was founded in 2012, is engaged in connecting original and distinctive drinks producers and like-minded individuals. The spirits that it distributes range from Mexican mezcals to Finnish vodkas.
Seymour Ferreira – CEO of Amber Beverage Group said: “The inclusion of Indie Brands to our portfolio in the UK would enable the Group to further drive their growing business interests in the UK. I am excited by the opportunities the exceptional team at Indie will offer our brands and our business in the UK.”
As per the deal, Indie Brands will continue its operations as a standalone business entity and its current management team members will all be retained.
Douglas Cunningham – Indie Brands Managing Director said: “All of us at Indie Brands are delighted to become part of the ABG. This acquisition represents a huge vote of confidence in the work of my Indie colleagues, who have worked tirelessly to build the company and its portfolio of incredible brands since inception eight years ago.
“Becoming part of the ABG family will provide Indie Brands with all the necessary support to ensure we maximise our position, and that of our partner brands, in the UK market. We are very excited about this new partnership, which will enable us to reach Indie Brand’s full potential and continue doing what we do best – celebrating premium spirit brands and maintaining our independent approach.”
Amber Beverage Group has appointed Simon Thomas in the newly created designation of managing director at Amber Beverage Group UK and will be handling the group’s two UK spirits distributors Cellar Trends and Indie Brands. Simon Thomas will also be responsible for supporting and lead further business development and merger and acquisition opportunities for Amber Beverage Group in the UK.
In December 2019, the global spirits group wrapped up its previously announced acquisition of a controlling stake in Mountain Spirits, an Austrian distribution and wholesaler company.
