Seymour Whyte bags A$340m contracts for major infrastructure upgrades in Sydney and Melbourne

VINCI Construction’s Australian subsidiary, Seymour Whyte, has been awarded two significant contracts, worth approximately A$340 million (€200 million), for road infrastructure projects in Sydney and Melbourne. These contracts highlight the company’s growing role in shaping Australia’s transport network, particularly in the context of sustainability and future-proofing urban mobility.

Key Projects in Sydney and Melbourne

In Sydney, Seymour Whyte has secured a contract to upgrade a 3.8 km stretch of Mamre Road, located west of the city near the site of the upcoming Western Sydney International Airport. The project, commissioned by Transport for New South Wales, involves transforming the current two-lane road into a four-lane corridor with provisions for future expansion. The design includes a central median to accommodate two additional lanes and a noise wall to reduce sound pollution in surrounding areas. Significantly, approximately 40% of the asphalt requirements for the project will be sourced from reclaimed materials, showcasing an environmental focus. This project is slated for completion in 2028.

In Melbourne, Seymour Whyte will be working on the upgrade of Clyde Road for Major Road Projects Victoria. The project includes widening the existing Clyde Road bridge and adding an extra lane in each direction. The project will also focus on upgrading junctions to improve traffic flow. Sustainability remains a key feature of this development, with an emphasis on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Solar or hybrid energy sources will power much of the equipment, and the project follows the Recycled First initiative, which prioritises the use of recycled materials. Completion is expected by 2027.

These contracts build on Seymour Whyte’s ongoing involvement in several high-profile road infrastructure projects across Australia. The company is already engaged in constructing access roads to the Western Sydney International Airport, modernising sections of Mulgoa Road in Sydney, and extending the M1 Pacific Motorway between Sydney and Brisbane.
