Cadila Healthcare (also known as Zydus Cadila) said that it has adopted a new technology initiative called ‘Zydus Verify’ to protect patients against counterfeit drugs.
In this connection, the Indian pharma company has rolled out a new feature in the packaging of its critical drugs for helping patients in identifying whether the product is genuine or fake. For this, Zydus Cadila has incorporated a new IT enabled scratch code which will be printed under a scratchable surface.
By scratching the surface and verifying the code through the app or the website, patients can determine the authenticity of the purchased product.
The security feature for the Indian pharma company has been developed by Hyperlink Infosystem.
Zydus Cadila said that it was essential to ensure that a 100% genuine product of the company is available to patients considering the growing instances of counterfeit products in the market.
The company has started implementing the technology in Remdac (Remdesivir) and Virafin Inj (Pegylated Interpheron Alpha 2b), which will be seen on the product packs in the third week of next month. The Indian pharma company will incorporate the new feature on its other products shortly.
Dr. Sharvil Patel – Managing Director of Cadila Healthcare Ltd., said, “The problem of counterfeit drugs undermines the painstaking efforts that are put in to ensure that the end user or patients receive a product that is safe and manufactured with the highest standards of quality excellence.
“Counterfeit drugs can be harmful as they may not have the desired outcome and could also be life threatening in some cases. To curb this menace we looked at a user friendly solution which can reassure the patient that the product is genuine and safe. Zydus Verify is a tech-enabled solution that will safeguard patients against counterfeit drugs.”
