In a significant move in the oil and gas industry, Wood has been awarded a major contract to support bp’s new subsea tieback in the UK North Sea. This deal focuses on delivering topside modifications to the central processing facility of bp’s Eastern Trough Area Project (ETAP) production hub. The contract, spanning two years, is pivotal in enabling the connection of ETAP to the Murlach field, marking a key development in subsea engineering.
Steve Nicol, Executive President of Operations at Wood, expressed pride in this collaboration, stating, “Working with bp for over 30 years, this contract builds on our global relationship, and we are proud to support this important project on one of their critical North Sea assets.” Wood’s approach will leverage its multi-region engineering services contract, ensuring efficient and safe delivery of asset repair, modifications, and enhancements vital for production from Murlach.
This cost-reimbursable contract is a continuation of Wood’s involvement in the Murlach field, following their successful delivery of pre-FEED and FEED work. It also comes on the heels of Wood’s successful completion of brownfield scopes on bp’s Seagull field, another noteworthy subsea tieback to ETAP that commenced production in 2023.
The Murlach project, primarily based in Aberdeen, showcases Wood’s robust capabilities in the sector. Over 300 employees are dedicated to supporting bp contracts, underscoring the company’s commitment to driving forward the North Sea’s oil and gas endeavors.
This new contract represents a significant milestone for Wood and bp, emphasizing their longstanding partnership and joint commitment to advancing the North Sea’s oil and gas infrastructure. With a focus on repurposing existing equipment and enhancing the ETAP hub, this project is set to make a substantial impact on the region’s energy landscape.
