Wipro signs deal to expedite digital innovation journey of National Grid
Wipro Limited said that it has inked a multi-year global IT and digital deal with UK-based electric and gas utility provider National Grid for expediting its digital innovation journey.
National Grid operates in the UK and the US.
Wipro by employing its Boundaryless Enterprise solutions will help in the continued digital transformation of National Grid. The Indian IT firm will also use the solutions to enable integration of the utility’s managed services and consolidation of various data centers across the US and the UK to next generation hosting services.
According to Wipro, the sustainable data centers will allow for improved program governance apart from greater consolidation and the moving of all server and application functions from conventional data centers.
Wipro will also help National Grid with mainframe migration and managed services transition, which will include the eventual implementation of a hybrid cloud solution for the latter.
Daniel Jablonski — National Grid Head of Cloud and Hosting Services said: “Our data center consolidation efforts will allow us to realize an over 60% reduction in our data center footprint as well as realize a 40% reduction in our data center CO2 emissions.
“Additionally this transformational program, in conjunction with Wipro, will position our IT capabilities to enable modernized SDDC techniques, technologies, and operating model to accelerate our own digital transformation as National Grid continues to build the future of energy.”
Wipro, as part of the collaboration with National Grid, expects to leverage its innovative solutions and expertise to deliver a flexible, scalable, and resilient digital transformation journey for the latter.
Geoffrey Jue — Vice President – ENU Sector Head, Wipro said: “National Grid is one of the world’s largest utility companies, and Wipro is excited to be named as a strategic partner. This new collaboration builds on the successful two-decade-old partnership between the two companies.
“Wipro will employ standardized tools and processes to provide cloud services that will strengthen National Grid’s infrastructure services, and support its strategic business objectives.”
