Wipro bags $44.5m contract from UK-based energy company National Grid

Indian IT services company Wipro has bagged a data center strategy, transition, and transformation contract worth $44.5 million from the National Grid, an energy company that operates in the UK and US.

By awarding the contract, National Grid is aiming to deliver next generation capabilities in data center and networks, while enhancing its operating model. This will facilitate the secure provision of reliable services to the business, said National Grid in a contract notice.

National Grid said that operationally it is important that National Grid achieve enhanced service delivery speed, scalability, and flexibility. The UK-based energy company expects to achieve these by streamlining its data center footprint, automating operations, and developing and implementing hybrid cloud architectures that address its present requirements.

The five-year contract won by Wipro will have a couple of optional one-year extensions for years six and seven.

Recently, Wipro entered into a partnership with US-based First Horizon Bank (FHN) for transforming the key banking channels and servicing capabilities of VirtualBank.
