This blockbuster release, led by a star-studded cast including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, was significantly anticipated, and has received widespread critical acclaim. Earning a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes Critics rating of 90%, an identical Audience Score, and an A CinemaScore, “Barbie” now holds the record for the highest-grossing day, pre-shows, and opening weekend of 2023 domestically. Moreover, it sets the record for the most substantial opening for a female-directed film.
The film has also been a sensation in international theaters, opening on Wednesday and swiftly topping the charts in 55 markets. “Barbie” holds the record for the most prominent industry opening in 2023 in 18 markets, including Australia, Brazil, and the UK, and set a new record for Warner Bros. Pictures’ largest opening in 16 markets, such as Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.
The movie marks the most significant opening for director Greta Gerwig and nearly all the actors, including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. It also holds the record for the most significant opening for a movie based on a toy.
