Warner Bros. Pictures’ blockbuster “Barbie” has crossed the half-billion dollar threshold at the global box office. The movie has earned an astonishing total of $528.6 million worldwide, with $237.2 million generated from domestic theaters and $291.4 million internationally. This remarkable achievement was announced today by Jeff Goldstein, President of Domestic Distribution, and Andrew Cripps, President of International Distribution, for Warner Bros. Pictures.
Greta Gerwig’s visionary direction coupled with a star-studded cast led by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has made “Barbie” a resounding success. Premiering on July 21 on 4,200 North American screens, the film broke records for the year’s biggest opening weekend, highest pre-shows and single-day grossing, and marked the largest-ever opening for a female-directed film.
As “Barbie” continues to dominate box offices in 69 territories worldwide, it has set new records for Warner Bros. This includes the biggest-ever industry opening weekend of the year in 24 markets, and the biggest-ever Monday for a Warner Bros. Pictures film in 19 territories, such as the UK and Italy.
The film marks the largest opening for director Greta Gerwig, and actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. It has also set a new benchmark for movies based on toys. With continued critical acclaim, “Barbie” is establishing itself as one of the best-reviewed films of the year.
Goldstein and Cripps, in their announcement, expressed their pride in the film’s spectacular run, which they likened to Barbie herself, in that it continues to defy all expectations. Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs & CEOs, Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy, echoed this sentiment, expressing their gratitude to audiences and exhibition partners across the globe who have supported the film.
