Walmart to build high-tech fulfillment center in McCordsville, Indiana

Walmart revealed plans to construct four new high-tech fulfillment centers, of which one will be located in McCordsville, Indiana.

According to the US retailing giant, the new 2.2 million square-foot facility will open in spring 2023. It will generate over 1,000 new jobs in Hancock County.

The Walmart fulfillment center in McCordsville will employ automation technology that enables the retailer’s customers and Walmart+ members in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky to access next- or two-day shipping on millions of items.

David Guggina — Walmart senior vice president for automation and innovation said: “Our new next generation fulfillment center is a first-of-its-kind for Walmart that will transform the way we ship online orders to customers.

“Through our automated storage system and patent-pending five step process, we’ll not only provide increased comfort for associates but also double the storage capacity and double the number of customer orders we’re able to fulfill in a day.”
