Waabi innovates with generative AI for autonomous trucking

Waabi, a startup based in Toronto, is harnessing the power of generative AI to revolutionize the transportation sector, particularly focusing on autonomous vehicles (AV) for long-haul trucking. In March, during the GPU Technology Conference (GTC), Waabi unveiled its plans to integrate NVIDIA’s DRIVE Thor car computer into its flagship product, the Waabi Driver, aiming to achieve a safer, more efficient autonomous trucking solution.

Raquel Urtasun, founder and CEO of Waabi, highlighted the efficiency of generative AI in this context, stating, “We are excited to have a deep collaboration with NVIDIA to bring generative AI to the edge, on our vehicles, at scale.” The collaboration is designed to minimize the need for extensive on-road testing while improving performance and scalability of AV solutions.

Waabi’s strategy involves the creation of two AI systems: Waabi World and Waabi Driver. Waabi World serves as a sophisticated simulator (the “teacher”) for training and validating Waabi Driver (the “student”), a fully interpretable, end-to-end AI system capable of human-like reasoning.
