Vision Products unveils world’s first zero distortion freeform prism eyepiece for augmented reality
Vision Products, LLC, a pioneer in head/helmet-mounted displays (HMDs) for military training & simulation, ground, and aviation applications, has announced a remarkable breakthrough – the world’s first zero distortion freeform prism eyepiece for augmented reality systems. The deal price for this innovative development is undisclosed.
This cutting-edge eyepiece boasts a massive 64-degree diagonal field of view, a 2k x 2k resolution, and a rapid 120 Hz update rate, setting a new benchmark for augmented reality systems that demand peak performance. Unlike glass waveguide displays, the high-performance optical polymer used in this eyepiece ensures that the display will not shatter, providing enhanced durability. Additionally, the freeform prism architecture delivers vivid, high-contrast imagery without the common diffraction effects seen in waveguide eyepieces. Its frameless design with minimal peripheral obscuration ensures users experience an unobstructed view of the real world around the eyepiece.
Dr. Mike Browne, President of Vision Products, expressed the significance of this achievement, stating, “Although freeform prism eyepieces provide better image quality than waveguides, there has always been the issue of a small amount of edge distortion. Customers can now have both high-performance imagery AND zero distortion in a wide field of view eyepiece.”
Vision Products’ groundbreaking zero distortion eyepiece will make its debut at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), the world’s largest event in modeling, simulation, and training. The I/ITSEC 2023 exhibition is scheduled to run from November 27 through November 30, 2023, at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in Orlando, Florida.
In summary, Vision Products’ zero distortion freeform prism eyepiece represents a significant leap forward in augmented reality technology, providing unmatched clarity and performance.
