VertiGIS acquires ibR, unveils new land management unit and Berlin-based innovation center
VertiGIS, a leading name in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial asset management, has officially announced the acquisition of ibR Gesellschaft für Geoinformation mbH (ibR).
Specializing in GIS technology for cadaster and surveying, ibR’s integration aligns perfectly with VertiGIS’ newly unveiled business unit dedicated to land management across the DACH region—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
VertiGIS CEO Andy Berry proclaimed the acquisition as a strategic cornerstone for the company’s global business. “The enhanced capabilities that ibR brings will greatly benefit both our existing and new customers,” said Berry. The merger positions VertiGIS to accelerate digital innovation in land management, blending the decades of experience both companies have in the fields of cadaster, surveying, and land development.
Dr. Hans-Gerd Riemer, CEO of ibR, expressed enthusiasm for the combined venture, stating, “We can now work together to further accelerate digitalization in Germany by helping municipalities and public authorities generate added value from their GIS data.”
VertiGIS, supported by global tech-focused investment firm Battery Ventures, has been on a growth trajectory since 2017, diversifying its footprint across Europe and North America. Their robust GIS technology serves various sectors including governments, utilities, and retail, assisting in tasks such as service disruption notifications for water utilities and store location planning for retail giants.
To top off the strategic moves, VertiGIS also revealed the launch of its Berlin-based Innovation Center. Focused on the development of cloud and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, the Innovation Center aims to deliver long-term value to VertiGIS customers. “Our technology portfolio will provide the very best long-term value to our customers,” concluded Berry.
