UltraTech Cement pledges to use 100% renewable energy by 2050

UltraTech Cement Limited, an Indian cement manufacturer, has pledged to use renewables sources to meet 100% of the electricity requirements of its entire global operations by 2050.

The cement flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group made its commitment to Climate Group’s RE100 initiative at Climate Week NYC 2021.

In the past couple of years, UltraTech Cement said that it had scaled up its capacity of contracted renewable energy by 2.5 times. The Indian cement manufacturer had previously set a target for scaling up its green energy mix to 34% of its total power requirement by 2024, from the present levels of 13%.

The commitment to move to 100 per cent renewable energy to meet our electrical energy requirements by 2050 is both a reflection of our confidence on the progress we have made, as well as our commitment to overcome the challenges ahead.
