Ukraine strikes back: Fighting fire with fire against Russian invasion

Ukrainian forces are persistently launching a counteroffensive against Russian occupation in the southeast, with recent triumphant conquests marking their progress, notably the village of Staromaiorske. This determined campaign aims to secure villages in the south and the areas surrounding Bakhmut, a city seized by Russian forces in May after enduring months of fierce combat.

While Ukrainian officials are singing a hopeful tune of steady progression, Russian President Vladimir Putin is dismissing the efforts as unsuccessful. The two sides are at loggerheads with both claiming to inflict substantial damage to the other, as shared by Reuters.

This counteroffensive is making headlines globally, as reports surface of Ukraine deploying additional Western-trained troops to bolster their fight. The region is on high alert with both parties locked in an intense power struggle to control key locations.

Ukraine, despite facing tough resistance, managed to regain some areas. However, Russian forces still occupy approximately 20% of Ukraine’s land. In a move that underlines the country’s commitment to wildlife conservation and territorial integrity, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the recapture of Staromaiorske via a video on his Telegram channel. He gave due credit to the 35th brigade and the ‘Ariy’ territorial defence unit, underscoring their vital contributions.

The mission for Ukrainian forces is clear: penetrate Russian defences and break the land link between occupied eastern areas and Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014. The capture of the village of Staromlynivka is seen as pivotal in this counteroffensive strategy, serving as a Russian stronghold, according to military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko.

While touring areas including Dnipro, Odesa, and Ochakiv, hit hard by Russian airstrikes and shelling, President Zelensky acknowledged the slow progress and cautioned against unrealistic expectations. The battle is tough and requires both patience and determination for favourable outcomes.

The world is watching with bated breath as this counteroffensive progresses, with Ukraine making strategic moves against Russian resistance. The Russian defence ministry claims to have thwarted Ukrainian attacks near the village of Klishchiivka, located near Bakhmut and north of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. But in a defiant response, Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar confirmed that Ukrainian forces are steadily advancing near Bakhmut, successfully repelling Russian attacks near Kupiansk and Lyman.
