Uber Technologies to procure 25,000 of XPREST EVs from Tata Motors
American ride hailing company Uber Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tata Motors to bring 25,000 electric vehicles (EVs) onto its platform as part of its efforts to advance sustainable mobility in India.
The deal is said to be the largest EV commitment to date by an automobile manufacturer and a ridesharing service in India.
Tata Motors will start deliveries of XPREST EVs for Uber fleet members in a gradual way beginning this month. The partnership will assist in an electrification plan for Uber service in Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.
Uber Technologies said that as it continues to progress toward its goal of zero emissions, the collaboration it has formed with Tata Motors will lay the foundation for the significant expansion of electric four-wheelers using the mobility platform in India.
The ride hailing company has pledged to have 100% of its rides on zero emissions vehicles, on public transit, or using micro-mobility by the year 2040.
Uber Technologies stated that it is focused on finding fresh, creative, and cost-effective ways to assist fleets and drivers switch to electric power and will draw in on partnerships between industry partners across EV producers, fleet and EV infra partners, and others to help accelerate the EV transition.
Shailesh Chandra — Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility MD said: “Working towards our aim of growing India’s e-mobility market, we are delighted to announce our partnership with Uber, India’s leading ridesharing app, for their expansion of sustainable mobility options.
“With this association, we have taken another leap towards enhancing electric mobility across the country, and will continue our work in ‘Moving India’ to a safer, smarter and greener future.”
