Seamless Tolling Experience for Italy’s Rental Car Market

Verra Mobility’s latest initiative focuses on providing an efficient tolling system for rental car customers. The service expansion follows the company’s earlier launch, which has already captured over 25% of Italy’s rental car market, covering a combined fleet of approximately 50,000 vehicles.

The proprietary solution allows renters to opt for electronic tolling through an installed device linked to their rental agreement. This arrangement simplifies toll payments, enabling access to Italy’s entire tolling network via Telepass, Verra Mobility’s strategic partner. Renters benefit from “fast lanes” where tolls are electronically processed, eliminating the need for manual payments and reducing congestion.

Italy’s Growing Need for Efficient Toll Solutions

Italy, one of the top tourist destinations globally, attracts over 134 million visitors annually. This influx leads to an increased demand for rental vehicles, with up to 164,000 rental cars using Italy’s tolled motorways during peak seasons. Since 2023, Verra Mobility has collaborated with Telepass, an Italian leader in integrated mobility solutions, to provide extensive toll payment coverage for short-term rentals. This partnership has enabled Verra Mobility to deploy its innovative tolling solution across Italy, making it accessible and user-friendly. Verra Mobility’s toll management solutions cater to over seven million vehicles globally, processing more than 300 million toll and violation transactions annually. The company currently offers similar services in Ireland, Spain, and Italy, with future plans to expand into Portugal and France.
