Tragic rampage in Manatee County, Florida leaves four dead, including gunman

In a devastating series of events, a violent rampage across multiple locations in Manatee County, Florida, ended with three women dead and the gunman, 28-year-old Javontee Brice, fatally shot by police. The tragic night began in Palmetto, where Brice first confronted his sister and ex-girlfriend but was dissuaded from violence. However, the situation escalated fatally at a Motel 6 in Bradenton.

At approximately 9:15 PM on Monday, Brice entered a hotel room and fatally shot his own mother in front of his two young sisters and her boyfriend, after muttering a chilling apology. The rampage continued to a home in Palmetto, where he shot and killed a 29-year-old cousin at a family cookout as she attempted to leave. His final act of violence occurred in Bradenton, where he murdered the new partner of another ex-girlfriend around 10:04 PM.

Authorities swiftly issued a statewide “Be On the Lookout” bulletin for Brice’s vehicle, which was later intercepted in Hamilton County near the Georgia border. When confronted by police around 1:30 AM, Brice engaged in a shootout and was ultimately killed by return fire.

The motives behind this horrifying spree remain unclear. Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells described Brice as having a specific agenda and knowing his targets, which starkly contrasts with the lack of understanding about what triggered his actions. “We don’t know what set this man off. We don’t know why he chose to kill his loved ones,” said Sheriff Wells. “We may never know, but we’re going to continue to investigate.”
