Tata Power to install 400KVA submersible power substation in South Mumbai
Tata Power said that in an effort to strengthen the power infrastructure in its operational area in South Mumbai, the company will install a 400KVA submersible power substation.
The proposed underground power substation, which will occupy virtually zero space, will be the first-of-its-kind to be set up by any power distribution utility in India, claimed Tata Power.
According to Tata Power, the submersible power substation, for which a ground breaking ceremony has been held, will see it installed in the parking space of the Parel receiving station.
Sanjay Banga — Tata Power T & D President said: “Tata Power through its differentiated offerings, continual innovation, and smart energy solutions, is delivering uninterrupted power supply and beyond-the-meter services to its customers.
“We are proud to initiate the work on installing India’s first submersible underground substation in Mumbai. This pioneering project will transform the power distribution sector of the country and establish a new benchmark for innovative and future ready solutions.”
The submersible substation is expected to support power demand load of high-rise infrastructure in the nearby areas and facilitate a continuous and reliable supply of electricity to consumers during exigencies such as storms and floods.
It will feature a specially designed 22kV submersible duty three-way Ring Man Unit, 22kV/433V 400KVA transformer with accessories designed for submerged operations.
Tata Power said that all the terminations of the submersible power substation will also be fit to work under submersion and will be equipped with touch proof design technology.
The integrated power company, which is a part of the Tata Group, intends to set up 10 such submersible power substations in its Mumbai licenced area by 2025.
Presently, Tata Power caters to more than 12 million customers through its distribution firms in Mumbai, Odisha, Delhi, and Ajmer.
