Tata Motors supplies 400 Starbus EV buses to Delhi Transport Corporation
Tata Motors, India‘s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has marked a monumental achievement by supplying 400 state-of-the-art Starbus EV buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The supply comes through its subsidiary, TML CV Mobility Solutions Ltd., as part of a larger 12-year contract with DTC to provide, maintain, and operate 1,500 air-conditioned, low-floor electric buses. These zero-emission buses are built under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives and are designed to offer a safe, convenient, and comfortable intra-city commute in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. This significant move brings Tata Motors’ total e-bus supply across the country to over 1,000.
The landmark fleet of 400 e-buses was officially flagged off on September 5, 2023, by Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, and Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi. This ceremony was graced by multiple dignitaries, including key figures from the Government of Delhi and Shilpa Shinde, IAS, Managing Director, DTC. Shinde expressed her commitment to delivering efficient, economical, and reliable road transport services to the citizens of Delhi. She emphasized that the 400 electric buses would not only improve mass mobility but also contribute to greener air quality across the National Capital Territory.
Adding to the occasion, Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, Chairman of TML CV Mobility Solutions Ltd., highlighted the company’s delight in partnering with DTC. Tata Motors has established state-of-the-art facilities at select depots across the National Capital Territory of Delhi. These are designed to charge, maintain, and seamlessly operate the e-bus fleet. Tata Motors looks forward to strengthening its association with DTC by supplying an additional 1,100 e-buses in a phased manner, further supporting Delhi’s vision for clean, sustainable, safe, and energy-efficient public transport.
The Tata Starbus EV is setting new standards in urban commuting with its full-electric drivetrain, which optimizes energy consumption and reduces operational costs. The e-bus features advanced technologies like electronic stability control, electronic brake distribution, and Intelligent Transport System, among others, aiming for the highest comfort and safety standards for commuters. With this leap in electric mobility, Tata Motors continues to be a frontrunner in providing cleaner, more efficient public transport solutions, aligning with the goals of the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
