Tata Motors sets new record in intellectual property creation
Tata Motors, India’s foremost automobile manufacturer, has reached a new peak in its commitment to innovation and intellectual property rights (IPR) creation. In the fiscal year 2024, the company achieved a historic milestone by filing a record number of 222 patents and 117 design applications. This marks the highest annual number of filings in the history of Tata Motors, emphasizing its leading role in the automotive industry’s innovation landscape.
The scope of these filings is extensive, covering a variety of product and process innovations that address some of the most critical automotive megatrends: Connectivity, Electrification, Sustainability, and Safety (CESS). The patents span diverse vehicle systems including powertrain, body & trim, suspension, brakes, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), and emission control. This wide-ranging approach not only reinforces Tata Motors’ position in technical advancements but also aligns with global trends towards more sustainable and intelligent automotive solutions.
In addition to the remarkable number of applications filed, Tata Motors also received a record-breaking 333 patents granted during the same period, bringing its total to over 850 granted patents.
