Tata Motors delivers first batch of electric buses to Srinagar Smart City

Tata Motors, a pioneer in India’s automotive industry, has achieved a milestone in sustainable urban transport by delivering the first batch of Ultra EV electric buses to Srinagar Smart City Limited. This initiative is a major stride under the collaboration with TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd, a Tata Motors Group entity. It’s part of a significant contract for 100 electric buses each for Srinagar and Jammu, stretching over 12 years to support the Jammu and Srinagar Smart City projects.

The state-of-the-art electric buses, acclaimed for their zero-emission performance, are indigenously manufactured, integrating next-generation technology and modern amenities to ensure safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly intra-city travel in Srinagar. The project aligns with the vision of the Housing and Urban Development Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, to create a financially and environmentally sustainable network of public transport.

The flag-off ceremony saw the presence of distinguished personalities, including Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, J&K, who expressed his anticipation for the transformative impact these electric buses will have on public transport and urban mobility in the city. The event underscored the region’s movement towards integrated sustainable urban mobility, marking a historic transformation in Srinagar’s public transport system.

Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, Chairman of TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd, highlighted the moment as a testament to Tata Motors’ dedication to promoting greener, safer, and smarter mobility solutions. He emphasized the company’s shared vision with the local government to deliver transportation that complements the tranquil environment of Jammu & Kashmir.

Tata Motors has a commendable track record, having supplied over 1,000 electric buses across India, which collectively have covered more than 9.6 crore kilometers to date. The Ultra EV buses represent a leap forward in public transportation, boasting features like full-electric drivetrains, electronic stability control, air suspension, and an Intelligent Transport System for optimal passenger safety and comfort, supporting the overarching commitment to a cleaner public transport system.
